In 2011 the Port of Lisbon created some record firsts. It was the first time the port has welcomed more than half a million passengers (502,644), an increase of 12% (448,497 tourists recorded in 2010). The 330 cruise calls also created a new record, representing a 10% increase from the previous year.
It was a first for 15 unfamiliar visitors to Lisbon too. 15 cruise ships called at the port for the very first time, 4 of which were new ships.
And, of course, on the 4th of April, the first cruise ship was berthed in the new pier in Santa Apolónia.
So 2012 is looking good for the port of Lisbon. There are now 3 cruise terminals, more than 1900m of berthing quays dedicated to cruise ships, and the new building is anticipated to be fully operational by the end of 2014. “With all this we believe there should be quite a few more firsts in 2012!” says Andreia Ventura, Board Member.
